For people who don't think the spam/virus problem is "that bad"

Here is the size of our email log for approximately the last 64 hours. Each email connection represents about 6 lines in the logfile:

$ ls -al /var/log/maillog
-rw-r-----    1 root     logs     294182547 Mar  9 21:14 /var/log/maillog

When last checked, we were running a ratio of approximately 280:1 garbage email to useful email. That figure is actually low — it does not count the things that actually make it through the first line of defenses.

Fortunately, our server has the space to store these logfiles and the CPU capacity to delete the garbage as it comes in. Many folks do not have that luxury. This imposes a tremendous, albeit hidden, cost to running the Internet

Anybody ready for secure, non-anonymous, verified email technology yet? I am.

Finally, I hope this gives the lie to any idiot who spouts the "if you don't want it, just delete it" defense. If a computer solely dedicated to email and web services can barely keep up with deleting it automatically, how in hell could I even hope to do it manually?

Does each technique have step by step pictures?

I just can't come [sorry] up with any kind of parody of this information that I've just downloaded from that Vast Information Resource that we all know and love as the Internet. So, I merely offer this link, so that you can finally know the truth.

I just don't know how in hell I could make this sh*t up.
