If you were a smart kid growing up in the 1960s in America, you knew about Bobby Fischer. He seemed to appear, and disappear, all at one moment. But he didn't really disappear, of course, and the whole sad story of what really happened to him can be found here. Or, at least, as much of it as we are ever likely to know.
