There is a new book on the way that purports to be the see-all-tell-all dirty history of Linux. The truth is that there really isn't one (it is really hard to get the members of an anarchy to 'conspire', you see, because first they would have to agree about something to conspire about ...)
In any case, this article gives a pretty good summary about what a hatchet-job it really was. Interesting reading even if you're not particularly technically-minded.
